PV inverters often operate outside –in the field- , influenced by weather conditions, especially the sun and high summer temperatures, as well as indirect overvoltages through lightning strikes in the winter.

Also, the unstable network in remote areas, or PV plants close to industrial zones and cultivated areas, stresses inverters as years passing.

The most vulnerable elements, which usually determine their service life, are electrolytic power capacitors and power relays.

The capacity of the capacitors drops over time and several times they explode and destroy some of the power and printed circuits.

Relays due to their continuous operation and sensitive contacts are several times stuck and burned.
